AGM 2011
The Annual General Meeting at the Chesham Moor Gym and Swim facility on 25 October was really well attended. The viewing room in the pool was packed and many of the attendees enjoyed a swim followed by fish and chips before the meeting started. The evening was a reflection of the spirit of the Chesham Moor Gym and Swim, it was relaxed and friendly but also informative, with a summary of the finances by Trevor Davies from the Friends’ committee and a review of the past year by Danny Essex, Centre Manager, which is summarised below including a few more recent developments.
The Gym has fared reasonably well in the current financial climate and the way forward is to concentrate on the plus points of the facility, it offers a more personal service than that of a “budget gym or a chain” and has the advantages of pay as you go and also the outdoor heated pool and multi-courts. One of the main focus points for 2012 will be to put a system in place to help with membership retention by regularly communicating with the gym user by means of email and marketing. This is a small community focused fitness centre which offers affordable fitness and we must continue to offer a unique environment in which people can exercise and feel comfortable.
The swimming pool has had a successful summer considering the weather and the income is similar to last year. Comments by swimmers regarding the pricing structure have been taken into account and should hopefully be reflected in the prices for the coming year. Roger Comer from the Friends committee has worked with Danny on a project to install solar panels on the roof of the centre which has now been approved by the Council Recreation and Arts Committee this means that we are hoping to generate electricity from solar panels which will be bought back my the electricity supply company thus helping to mitigate rising energy costs. This is a great example of how the Friends can help the centre, Roger was able to give time and professional advice. Another example of the support provided by the Friends is in the area of marketing. Peter Hudson has given a great deal of time to this area and in particular has helped with advice on improving the website to use it as an efficient marketing tool.
Thanks to all who have worked at the centre, the Friends for their input and the council for their financial support, most of all thank you to everyone who use the facility. Without you it wouldn’t be possible so please keep supporting us and please spread the word that Chesham Moor Gym and Swim is one of Chesham’s best kept secrets!
